SkinBase  Microdermabrasion

What is it?

During microdermabrasion thousands of tiny aluminium oxide crystals are jetted across the skin to gently remove the outer layer of old skin cells and reveal new fresh, rejuvenated skin. The crystals and cells are then removed using a vacuum action which also stimulates blood flow and the production of collagen and elastin to the treated areas.

Who is it for?

Anyone will benefit from Microdermabrasion treatment. it improves the overall appearance of the skin giving a healthy glow and youthful appearance. It is suitable for all skin types, skin tones and age groups. As well as people with sensitive skin.

Is it suitable for Men?

Yes it is great for men too. It can help treat stubble rash and ingrown hairs by removing skin build up around the follicle. Although not essential, male clients should shave the night before a morning treatment and in the morning before an afternoon treatment. Dry, shaven, clean skin allows the micro-crystals to reach the skin surface unobstructed. 

Will it make my facial veins worse?

 Microdermabrasion can't be used to treat broken capillaries or thread veins. If they are mild and in a small area I will simply avoid them. If the area affected is quite large then I would advise against microdermabrasion.

I've got sensitive skin can I have this treatment?

Aluminium oxide crystals are an inert compound and as such this means reactions are extremely rare even with the most sensitive skin. for added peace of mind I can perform the treatment on a low pressure setting to allow the skin to acclimatize.

What does it feel like?

 Most people find it quite relaxing. You will feel the gentle suction and the sensation of the crystals on your skin. This will be a pleasant experience and not at all painful.

How many sessions will I need?

This will vary depending on your skins condition. Microdermabrasion is a fantastic one-off exfoliating treatment. it is also great for treating problematic skin issues such as acne, pigmentation or fine lines and wrinkles. Treatment for skin problems may require between 3-20 treatments depending on their extent and the skin concern to be treated. After a consultation I will be able to suggest a recommended treatment plan based on your needs. 

How long will the results last for?

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliating treatment and as such should be carried out regularly. Skin is continually renewing itself and this happens approximately every 28 days. MD provides a deep exfoliation to remove built up and old skin so you will continue to benefit from regular MD treatments after a completed course.

Results achieved for skin problems such as pigmentation, acne and acne scarring can be maintained by protecting the skin from UV rays and maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle alongside MD maintenance treatments.

Who is it NOT suitable for? 

It is not suitable if any of the following apply:

Pregnancy

Cancer

Grade 4 Acne (Pustules and Papules)

Using Roaccutane in the last 6 months 

Auto-Immune Disease

Diabetes

Impetigo

Rosacea 

What happens during a treatment? 

I offer two types of Microdermabrasion facials

Express SkinBase Facial

After a consultation your skin will be cleansed. The MD will be carried out. Afterwards any crystal residue will be removed and your skin will be toned, moisturised and a SPF 15 will be applied.

Deluxe SkinBase Facial 

As above but after the MD I will apply a hydrating masque under a LED phototherapy light Mask to maximise the benefits.
